Recovering lost WhatsApp sales

Why look at old threads before spending on new leads?
Because a stalled thread already cost the effort of acquiring that lead in the first place through whatever marketing brought them to the page, and often the customer had real intent behind that inquiry, they asked a specific question about a specific product they were genuinely considering buying. Sending more traffic to the top of the funnel while leaving already-interested leads unanswered in old threads is effectively spending twice for the same class of customer: once to acquire them the first time around through ads or content, and again later when new marketing brings in someone with the same level of interest the old thread already had, sitting there completely free of charge the whole time it went unanswered.
How do you find what is actually recoverable?
Pull the last two to four weeks of WhatsApp conversations and sort each one by how it ended: customer said no clearly and explicitly (not recoverable, leave it alone), customer ordered already and the sale converted (nothing further to do here), or the thread simply stopped with no closing message from either side of the conversation (potentially recoverable and worth a closer look). That third bucket is where the entire recovery opportunity actually sits waiting. Threads that stopped right after the customer asked a specific, directly answerable question are the strongest candidates within that bucket, since the intent behind them is the clearest and easiest to reconnect with using a targeted follow-up.
What does the recovery message actually need?
| Element | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Reference to their specific question | Reminds them of context without extra effort on their part |
| A direct, low-friction next step | "Still available if you want it" beats an open-ended check-in |
| No pressure language | A single soft nudge, not urgency or a discount pitch |
A recovery message that reads like a brand-new cold outreach rather than a genuine continuation of an existing conversation tends to underperform noticeably compared to one that references the earlier exchange directly, because it loses the context that made the original inquiry a genuinely warm lead in the first place, treating the customer like a total stranger instead of someone already partway through a real decision.
What should you fix once you know why threads stalled?
Look for the pattern behind the majority of stalled threads as a group, not just each individual case reviewed on its own in isolation. If most stalled right after a price question with no delivery cost mentioned anywhere in the reply that was sent, that is an answer-completeness problem worth fixing going forward for every future lead that comes in, entirely separate from the work of recovering the specific leads already affected by the gap. Recovery brings back individual sales one at a time through direct outreach; fixing the underlying pattern behind why they stalled in the first place prevents the next batch of leads from ever needing recovery at all, which is by far the more valuable outcome of the two available paths.
How often should this recovery pass run?
Monthly is a reasonable cadence for a full, thorough review across all recent threads sitting in the inbox, with a lighter weekly check for threads that went quiet in just the past few days, while the context is still fresh enough for a follow-up to feel genuinely timely rather than like reaching back into old, half-forgotten history the customer barely remembers. Waiting months to run a recovery pass means following up on inquiries the customer may no longer remember making at all by that point, which sharply reduces how effective any recovery message can realistically be once sent that late.
How EverCore handles this
EverCore answers product, price, stock and delivery questions on WhatsApp the moment they arrive, then collects name, phone and address once the customer is convinced. A lead that stops replying gets one nudge before the thread closes. See how EverCore's WhatsApp lead conversion automation turns inbound questions into confirmed COD orders.
